YouTubers speak out against the social media giant.

In a blog post on Medium, self-proclaimed ‘Internetainerpreneur’ Hank Green pointed out a few concerns he has with Facebook Video.

Hank Green has made a career out of YouTube through his educational channels SciShow and CrashCourse, through his participation in Vlogbrothers, as well as his many other internet-based businesses. As a YouTuber, getting views on his several channels is how he keeps his businesses running. With Facebook Video on the rise, it is only natural that Green would have a few concerns.

In his post, titled ‘Theft, Lies, and Facebook Video,’ Green lists his top three concerns with Facebook Video, including how it tracks video views, how native video gives Facebook Video an advantage over embedded video, and how it tolerates stolen content being uploaded to the site.

His first issue is that ‘They Cheat.’ In his words:

“If I embed a YouTube video or Vine on Facebook, only a tiny fraction of my audience will actually see it. But if I post the same video natively on Facebook, suddenly it’s in everyone’s feed everywhere!”

He cites a SciShow video as an example. An embedded YouTube video of the show will reach between 20,000 and 50,000 people and be viewed by hundreds of people, while the same video uploaded natively will reach between 60,000 and 150,000 and be viewed by tens of thousands.
